WOW! Incredible! Awesome! are just some of the more common words we hear at Academy Riding Stables of Colorado. From the oldest to youngest, whether it is one of our Colorado pony rides or more mature horse back riding, the excitement we see from returning riders shows this is an experience you don’t want to miss. We look forward to meeting you and hearing your thoughts as you return from your own awesome ride!
Your adventure begins at our stables 30 minutes prior to ride time, where you are matched with a horse that will carry you on either a one- or two-hour ride. Whether you’re an experienced rider or just a beginner, our trained cowboys have the knowledge and skill to insure your ride is the best it can be.
As you wind along the scenic trails of historical Garden of the Gods, your eyes will feast on the natural beauty that inspired one of America’s most revered and timeless anthems, “America The Beautiful.”
Your adventure awaits at Academy Riding Stables. So come on over and experience Colorado the way they did over 100 years ago—on horseback!
Not to be left out, kids under 8 years old can experience the fun of riding a pony at our enclosed pony carousel. Choose the pony and saddle up for a safe and fun alternative to getting left at the stables!
I didn’t know that! That’s the exclamation we hear most often from people taking our OLD COLORADO CITY HERITAGE TOUR. Whether it’s the pioneer history of the Botts Cabin, the meeting of the Territorial Legislature, the story of the fort and stockade on Pike’s Peak Avenue, or the gold milling days; or maybe the more modern history of Automotive Racing’s Unser brothers (Jerry, Bobby, and Al),who got their start racing up Pike’s Peak. You will about hear all of this and much, more on the HERITAGE TOUR.
For a taste of the Old West that is a little more urbane than riding the back of a horse, climb aboard our authentic mountain wagon for a marvelous 40 minute tour of the heart of Old Colorado City. Pulled by two of Academy Riding Stables docile draft horses, and escorted by a couple of our authentic cowboys, you will see a number of historical buildings and hear stories of Old Colorado City when it was growing up. Stories of Breweries, and underground tunnels that contained opium dens; stories of stage stops and railroads; stories of second story gambling casinos, dance halls, and even the Waycott Opera House; stories that led one guest to remark “That’s the best ten bucks I’ve spent on this vacation.” You will even hear what a mountain wagon is!
Or are you looking for a way to make your office, church, or community organization event a success? How about a HAYRIDE; or perhaps a short excursion in a SURREY with the fringe on top? Our experienced handlers and teamsters at Academy Riding Stables can work with you to design an unforgettable experience for your entire group. Don’t forget to have the photographer at hand. Your guests will treasure the pictures of them seated in the vehicle with the horses up front.
And there is, of course, no better way to arrive (or depart) a WEDDING ceremony, that to do so in the luxury of the surrey. We can make it very intimate, with just the bride and groom in the two seat surrey, or we can bring the whole wedding party in the twelve seat mountain wagon. At Academy Riding Stables, we want to work with you to help make your special day one that you will always remember.
